Tech has always been at our core, ever since 2006 when founder Linus built the first version of Ridestore from his childhood bedroom. Since then, a lot has changed, but the focus on customers and tech remains. Now, we’re looking for a business-orientated CTO* who is not just a leader but a doer, someone who thrives in the thick of the action and is passionate about driving technological growth. We want you to be the guiding star and help all our ambitious teams to improve through tech. You will lead the tech team through an exciting journey, shaping the future of the technological landscape at Ridestore together with us.

We’ve tried not to get stuck in corporate structures since the start, so we’ve built the company we’d love to work for. Some examples;

- We value autonomy and flexibility. We adapt to changes, avoid unnecessary meetings, and aim for asynchronous communication as we believe in calmness and focused work.

- Simplification is core in all our solutions

- We favor decentralized decision-making; freedom and ownership of your work

- We aim to automate as much as possible to maximize efficiency to keep a lean team

- Above all, we want to work with the smartest and most humble people. It's simply more fun this way.

THE IMPACT

In the short term, you will get on top of where we are in Tech today. You will need to get familiar with our tech stack (https://stackshare.io/ridestore/ridestore-new) and our team and get to know your stakeholders on the business side of the company. Since we are doing things differently at Ridestore, you will spend time learning our ways of working with asynchronous communication, how we are idea-driven, how we pitch ideas, and how we produce quality work by staying calm, to mention a few. Once you know the current state of affairs, you will likely want to grow the team in specific directions to meet the organization's needs.

Transitioning to the long term, you will continue to play a strategic and operational role. Your leadership will foster thriving team relationships while maintaining a lean and agile tech organization. You'll set flexible strategies, adapt as we grow, and ensure our tech operations are exceptional; each team should have tech at its core.

WHAT YOU’LL BE UP TO

You’ll lead and work together with a highly talented tech team, and your main focus will be to elevate the business operations in how they can utilize technology to work smarter and better. As we believe in having a lean team at Ridestore, we want you to find the balance between being strategic and being hands-on when there is value in you being hands-on. Some of the things we think you will be involved in:

- Work with other departments to understand and interpret their needs to make sure technology supports the business operations

- Draft and build detailed and actionable technology roadmaps that support and improve team operations and overall business efficiency

- Recruit, develop, and lead the team; foster a culture of innovation and progressive thinking

- Run the day-to-day tech operations in the team and support in prioritization

- Make sure the team is at the technical forefront and consistently researches new technologies

- Evolve how we use data in decision-making

- Handle external partnerships

- Have a focus on cybersecurity and IT audits

- Focus on the customer's experience to ensure our technology drives a great experience on our platforms

WHO YOU ARE

Most of Ridestore has been remote since 2014. We have, through the years, experimented and gotten inspiration from other companies and have found better and wiser ways of doing things. To keep a lean organization of ambitious people, our culture is the most important thing we build. We want to work with humble, curious, and communicative individuals. In this role, it’s really important that you are driven by leading and growing people, have a natural structure in how you organize your work, and are task-oriented. To work in this role, you must be a self-managed driver with a passion for tech innovation and creativity.

YOUR EXPERIENCES

You have a background as a developer with a lot of experience working with business teams in e-commerce. This means you are used to dealing with different types of people, from tech experts to beginners, and have used tech to help scale the business.

What we need you to have

- Business savviness that helps you make the right decisions

- A fundamental understanding of processes and how processes drive business

- Proficiency in (what we hope is); AWS Lambda, Cloudflare, NODE, SQL, React (NextJS), TypeScript, Event/Message based architectures

- Leadership and decision-making skills

- Experience in ERP, sales platforms, and D2C/Ecom environments

And it’s even better if you have

- Experience in CommerceTools

- Knowledge of Netsuite

WHY JOIN US?

Our journey is our goal; we want to continue to learn and see where it can take us. It’s been working for the last 17 years, and we have a feeling that with our culture and the right people joining, we can create something lasting. If this challenge sounds like something up your alley - we hope to see you in the process.

How we do it
We want to see the person behind the application. So please don't put any effort into writing a cover letter before applying; instead, you will get to write answers to some questions that we find interesting for this role. Good luck, and have fun.

To be honest, we don’t really like CXO titles, but for the sake of attracting the right people to the role, we use CTO in this advert. We have a flat org structure, so your internal title would be Tech Team Lead.
